Pre-Course Assessments (online or face to face)

Cost: $165 (incl. GST)

Time: up to 60mins

Location: TDA headquarters (Burpengary, QLD)

When: Assessments are primarily held on weekends. Limited appointments available, book with plenty of notice. 

These assessments are designed to help the handler decide if their existing dog is likely to be appropriate for Therapy work. 


These assessments include:

- Introduction to TDA training methods

- Training demonstration

- TDA trainer will work with your dog to assess how well your dog responds to the training, and will assess and take note of any personality or temperament issues

- Feedback on any issues that might need to be resolved prior to starting therapy dog training, an individual training plan (for ongoing one on one training) can be devised, if required.

Group Training & ReAssessment days

Group Training Days

When:
Mornings - 8am to 12.30/1pm 
Generally these are scheduled bi-monthly on Saturday’s – for specific dates check the registration form below (note: generally only the next one or two dates are posted in advance, check back for updates or follow our Facebook page www.facebook.com/therapydogaus).

Where:
Therapy Dogs Australia training headquarters @ Burpengary, QLD.

Who is invited:
Graduates of the Therapy Dogs Australia (TDA) 5-day Therapy Dog and Handler Course.

If you have trained your dog elsewhere, please contact us to discuss if we are suitable for ongoing re-assessments of your dog. 

Cost:
$165 (incl. GST) per canine-handler team (includes re-certification if appropriate). 

Fee is required upon booking to secure your place (an invoice will be sent within 24hrs)

Fee is non-refundable or transferrable (without a medical/vet certificate). If you are unable to make your date, you are welcome to ask another graduate if they are able to take your place. 


What to expect
Dogs & handlers are put through their paces in order for us to assess that the team continue to perform at a high standard throughout their animal-assisted therapy career. Teams will be expected to be at least at the standard at which they graduated, however we are always excited to see our teams continue to improve. 

Teams are scored and graded across tasks which were assessed throughout their course. For more details, send us an email. Teams are able to move up to levels 2 and 3 based on re-assessment scores and work experience. 

One part of our re-assessment is to see our teams in a busier place in contact with people they do not know. We recognise that not all therapy dogs are created equal and we encourage diversity in our teams. Therefore, we will alternate your facility assessment between GTD dates between either our local Burpengary Markets, and our local nursing home. 

It is a part of your re-assessment for us to see you in one of these environments, you must participate in this part of the day if you are re-assessing. 

What to bring

  • Your dog & a mat. Please dress appropriately (enclosed shoes are a must!), and remember sunscreen/hat if it's sunny out. 
  • Bring your therapy dog coat/bandana for group photo opportunities – if you like. 
  • Light refreshments will be provided on the day, please bring your own snacks if you have dietary requirements.  
  • Bring your business card for networking opportunities. 

*** Please note – re-assessments which are occurring on the day, dog and handler teams will be advised of the outcomes via email within 48 hours of the Group Training Day.
